OILSEED PREPARATION

HUM Oilseed Preparation Process provides fast and effective operation of mechanical and solvent extraction methods in the HUM Pressing or HUM Extraction units, which is the next step of cleaning the seed from foreign materials.

Oilseed Preparation consists of the following process steps:

  • HUM Cleaning is the process of separating foreign materials such as dust, metal and stone with aspiration process from oilseed.

  • HUM Dehulling is the process of removing the hull skin from the seed to increase the amount of protein in the degreased cake.

  • HUM Conditioning Vertical Seed Conditioner, to heat and dry the seed slowly and efficiently, serving it to be conditioned properly for further processing.

  • HUM Cracking, to reduce the particle size of the seeds

  • HUM Flaking, to rupture the cell structure of the broken seeds

  • HUM Cooking, to reduce the viscosity of the oil and adjust the moisture content

DEHULLING

HUM

The first step in processing seeds is to properly prepare the seeds for dehulling. This step typically involves using magnets to remove metal and screening to remove impurities that can interfere with the dehulling process.

Afterwards, hulls are removed from seeds to both increase the protein content of the final meal product and also to improve the efficiency of the solvent extraction process. Dehulling processes and equipment differ due to process conditions and seed types. However, there are three dehulling processes used in practice for soybean: Hot dehulling, warm dehulling and cold dehulling.

HUM Hot Dehulling Processing After the oilseed passes through the jet dryer, conditioning is performed in the HUM Vertical Seed Conditioner, which can both dry and condition, so that the hulls that are tightly attached to the seed are prepared for easy separation during removal. Then the oilseed is crushed in HUM Crushers; the hull is removed in Cascade Hull Separators and in the last process, fine dust and fugitive small oil seed particles are taken in the Hull Control Screen.

HUM Warm Dehulling Processing Uses HUM Vertical Seed Conditioner. HUM Vertical Seed Conditioner provides all of the drying, conditioning and heating of the untreated soybean seed. Conditioned seed is broken in HUM Crushers; on the other hand, the shell is removed in Cascade Hull Separators and in the last process, fine dust and fugitive small seed particles are taken in the Hull Control Screen.

HUM Cold Dehulling Processing Since there is no drying in this process, it should be used in low moisture seeds. The seed is broken in HUM Crushers; on the other hand, the hull is removed in Cascade Hull Separators and in the last process, fine dust and fugitive small seed particles are taken in the Hull Control Screen.

CONDITIONING

When preparing seeds for extraction, the seed is needed heating and drying to the correct temperature and moisture. The HUM Vertical Seed Conditioner and Stack Type conditioner are engineered to heat and dry the seed slowly and efficiently, serving it to be conditioned properly for further processing. The residence time is very important when determining the temperature and moisture removal of the seed. As the seed rate is increased or decreased, the quantity of heating sections can be changed to control the effective residence time.

CRUSHING

CRUSHING is the process of breaking up the seed in order to obtain a high protein and to separate the shell and core from each other. Separating the shell and inner particle of the oil seed is very important in terms of oil productivity and quality. If there is no good crushing and dehulling, the oil remaining in the shell during pressing cannot be recovered. The solvent used during the extraction process decreases the quality of the oil while dissolving the fragrant, coloring agents and adhesive substances in the shell. During the crushing process, the seed should only be crushed, not pulverized. Fine seed particles in the form of highly crushed powder are stored in the shells and cause an increase in the amount of oil in the shell.

FLAKING

FLAKING operation is crushing the kernel into thin flakes after dehulling. Because the oil of the oil seeds is within small cells, weakening and breaking of these cells is important in oil extraction. By flaking the area of leaking out of oil is increased and the resistance of the cell against oil extraction is minimized. The distance, which the oil travels after leaving the cell, is shortened and bursting of cells during pressing becomes simpler. During flaking the pieces must have broad surfaces as much as possible. As the flake thickness increases, the amount of oil remaining in the extraction cake is increased. Oil amount in the cake can be adjusted by obtaining the required oil thickness, by adjusting the distance between the balls of the rollers used for flaking

FLAKER

HUM Flaking is designed to turn the broken oilseeds into thin flakes (from 0,28 to max.0,35mm) for the subsequent oil extraction through Oil Pressing or Extraction.
