HUM OILSEED PREPARATION (HPRP)

In any HUM Oil Seed Preparation Process, the seeds are cleaned before further processing. The cleaning step can contain aspiration, classification by size, removal of stones and removal of metals.

The aim of preparation is to modify the seed into a shape that is suitable for fast and effective extraction by HUM Oil Pressing (HPRS) or by HUM Extraction (HEXT)

It is a sequence of several of the following processes:

  • HUM Dehulling (HDHL), to increase the protein content of the de-oiled meal
  • HUM Vertical Seed Conditioner (HVSC), to heat and dry the seed slowly and efficiently, serving it to be conditioned properly for further processing.
  • HUM Cracking (HCRC), to reduce the particle size of the seeds
  • HUM Flaking (HFLK), to rupture the cell structure of the broken seeds
  • HUM Cooking (HCOO), to reduce the viscosity of the oil and adjust the moisture content

HUM Dehulling (HDHL)

HUM Screening

The first step in processing seeds is to properly prepare the seeds for dehulling. This step typically involves using magnets to remove metal and screening to remove impurities that can interfere with the dehulling process. Next, hulls are moved to both increase the protein content of the final meal product and also to improve the efficiency of the solvent extraction process. Finally, mechanical rollers are used to make thin flakes and rupture the cells containing the seeds oil. The dehulling of the seeds is part of the extraction process, previous to the extraction by mechanical pressing with the objective of improving the final quality of the meal.

HUM Hot Dehulling Processing (HHDP) the next step is the HUM Vertical Seed Conditioner, which provides both conditioning and drying of whole soybeans. The whole soybeans are then passed through the Jet Dryer, which finishes the conditioning and prepares the soybean hull for easier removal during times when the hull is bound tightly to the soybean. After the Jet Dryer, the soybeans are immediately cracked in HUM Crackers (HCRC), and the soybean hulls are removed in the HUM Cascade Hull Separator (HCHS), and the fines are rescued in the HUM Hull Control Screen (HHCS).

HUM Warm Dehulling Processing (HWDP) also includes the HUM Vertical Seed Conditioner (HVSC). The HUM Vertical Seed Conditioner (HVSC) provides all of the heating, conditioning and drying for the whole soybean. The soybeans are cracked in HCRC, and then aspirated with the (HCHS) for hull removal and (HHCS) for fine rescuing.

HUM Cold Dehulling Processing (HCDP) lower moisture content, as there is no drying step in the process. The soybeans are cracked in (HCRC) and aspirated with the (HCHS) for hull removal and (HHCS) for fine rescuing, and finally conditioned using the HUM Vertical Seed Conditioner (HVSC) prior to HUM Flaking (HFLK)

HUM Vertical Seed Conditioner (HVSC)

When preparing seeds for extraction, the seed is needed heating and drying to the correct temperature and moisture. The HUM Vertical Seed Conditioner (HVSC) is engineered to heat and dry the seed slowly and efficiently, serving it to be conditioned properly for further processing. The residence time is very important when determining the temperature and moisture removal of the seed. As the seed rate is increased or decreased, the quantity of heating sections can be changed to control the effective residence time.

HUM Cracking (HCRC)

CRUSHING operation is intended to grit the seeds, separate shall and kernel and to obtain a high protein product by reducing total internal volume. Shelling of oily seeds and separation from kernel is very important in terms of OIL PRODUCTIVITY and QUALITY. If no shelling is performed the oil absorbed by shell during pressing cannot be recovered. The solvent, which is used during extraction process, also solves the waxy material in the shell and the aromatic and coloring agents of the shell, thus reduces oil quality. During shelling, shells must only be cracked, not damaged by crushing. The crushed kernel is driven out with shell and a loss occurs.

HUM Cracking (HCRC) for the oilseed breaking (6-8 pieces) during the HUM Oil Seed Preparation (HPRP) Process, previous to the HUM Flakers (HFLK), in order to improve the quality and capacity of the flaking.

HUM FLAKING (HFLK)

HUM Flakers

FLAKING operation is cutting the kernel into thin flakes after shelling. Because the oil of the oil seeds is within small cells, weakening and breaking of these cells is important in oil extraction. By flaking the area of leaking out of oil is increased and the resistance of the cell against oil extraction is minimized. The distance, which the oil travels after leaving the cell, is shortened and bursting of cells during pressing becomes simpler. During flaking the pieces must have broad surfaces as much as possible. This can be attained by 8-10% humidity at sunflower. As the flake thickness increases, the amount of oil remaining in the extraction cake is increased. Oil amount in the cake can be adjusted by obtaining the required oil thickness, by adjusting the distance between the balls of the rollers used for flaking.

HUM Flaking (HFLK) is designed to turn the broken oilseeds into thins flakes (from 0,2 to max. 0,3 mm) for the subsequent oil extraction through HUM Oil Pressing (HPRS) or HUM Extraction (HEXT).
